Alexandra and Izak had a truly stunning winter wedding at the Matakana Woolshed on July 1st 2017. Their wedding video produced by Revera Studios gave me goose bumps; I almost wish I was there to celebrate too!
Alexandra chose a rustic winter theme for the day with a romantic feel which they achieved through their rich burgundy and navy colour palate. Fairy and festoon lighting as well as ivy, flowers lots of greenery also helped achieve their overall look. Alexandra painted a number of wooden pallet signs in the months leading up to the wedding, and they also had wooden rounds on the tables as centrepieces.
Alexandra & Izak were married by their pastor Andrew Neville from Northcross community church, just one of the many special people they had involved in their day, “It was so special to have the most important part of the day done by someone special in our lives!”
The Love Story
Izak and I met in high school in 2012, when we were forced to sit next to one another by our teacher. Izak was a flirt and I was good at math, so he charmed me and I helped him to get an excellence!
We became best friends, and began dating at the end of our schooling. After being together for 3 years, we planned a beautiful trip to Queenstown. On the side of a mountain during sunset Izak got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes, and we began planning for our big day!
You can read and see more about their trip/engagement on Izak’s photography blog here:
Northcote Baptist Church
”The ceremony was at Northcote Baptist church, a place very dear to my heart as the place that my parents were married, and I attended as my home church growing up”.
The Matakana Woolshed
“The Matakana Woolshed was ideal place for our rustic winder wedding! With the wood theme, and cosy fireplace, it made a beautiful romantic feel! We loved having our guest seated upstairs, and the dance floor/drinks down below. The people from the woolshed were very helpful with making sure our evening ran smoothly! We were able to set up from the Wednesday before our wedding, giving us a full 3 days to make sure everything was looking perfect.”
The Original Spit Roast Catering Company
“Wonderful food, affordable menu options, a variety of menu options, catered wonderfully for our people with dietary requirements, and very friendly and respectful staff”
“Avosa Photography produced the most beautiful engagement and wedding photos for us, and we now can’t wait to see the rest of our wedding photos! He is worth every dollar spent, fun to be around, and so talented! We felt relaxed and he had amazing ideas for incredible photos! He worked around the weather and allowed us to enjoy our day without feeling stressed about locations and lighting!”
“Revera Studios produced the most amazing video for us, that we now watch to re-live our day over and over! They were a pleasure to have on our day, and always shared our excitement! We received our video so quickly, and it is so special that now we can share it with those who couldn’t be there on the day! They covered every detail when planning to make sure that they got the best shots and the audio was captured clearly for our vows and speeches! Very friendly and easy to talk to, they worked around all our plans and produced an emotional video to suit the style that we were going for perfectly!”
Alma J Bridal
Alexandra is an absolute dream in her gown and Alma couldn’t speak more highly of her and agreed she was just the most beautiful bride!
“My dress was a Stella York one, brought from Alma J bridal. Stella York was my dream wedding dress designer since seeing one in a magazine, and so I went to Alma J knowing there would be Stella York dresses. The first wedding dress that I tried on ended up being the one that I got, and Alma was amazing at making sure it was exactly as I wanted! I added the lace sleeves to suit our winter wedding, and Alma ensured that the dress hugged my figure beautifully, and it was all altered and finished perfectly in time for our special day!”
“We really got to know the people that helped us there, and they made sure to give us deals and make it as discounted as possible! They knew us by name, wrote down all of our decisions, prices and changes and were very patient with us choosing the perfect fabric and colour and allowed us to make adjustments such as changing to wooden buttons.”
The groomsmen also had wooden cuff-links crafted with a different symbol/animal to suit each of them.
Head 2 Toe Styling
To add to the special touches on their day Alexandra’s lifelong friend Livvy was on hand for creating the gorgeous looks Alex and her bridesmaids had for their hair as well as Alex’s mum.
Their makeup was done by Ash from Head-to-toe styling, “They both did such an amazing job, we had trials before the wedding, and on the day it looked exactly as I had hoped! “
“It was really important to me that the bridesmaids had infinity dresses, so that they could each wear it in their own style, yet they would be in the same beautiful burgundy colour that we chose as our winter theme. I was very relieved to find these dresses online.”
Carlton Party Hire Matakana
“Grant) was AMAZING! He replied to my countless emails changing what we wanted to hire, and giving me quotes constantly. He made sure we had everything we needed, including tables, chairs, table cloths, fairy lights, festoon lights, punch bowls, glasses, a sound system, and the list goes on! Not only that, but on the week we were setting up, he set up another speaker free of charge when we realised that the music needed to be upstairs and downstairs!”
Flower’s on Onewa & Fresh Cut Flower Wholesalers
The blooms included in all bridal work were Colombian “quicksand” roses and the ones in the table arrangements were the Indian roses “avalanche”. The flowers used in the arch drops were spray chrysanthemums and all foliage was sourced off Alexandra’s Aunties farm.
“Ron helped us to figure out exactly what we wanted, how much we needed, and what would work out to be the most cost effective! The ceremony flowers were put together by my lovely Gran, and the reception flowers by my friend, Aunty, Mum & Mother in law!”
Were there specific components you spent more or less on?
We spent more on photography and videography, as Izak is a photographer himself, so capturing memories in this way was important to us! They day went by so fast, and we now have our incredible video and photos to be able to re-live our gorgeous day.
Any tips or tricks you can offer brides-to-be?
Plan and organise early! Our engagement was 1 day less than a year long, and so we began planning all the important things quickly.
We also did a lot of DIY months before the wedding, and small details such as bridal party gifts. This meant that the week of the wedding, everything was organised and ready to just be set up!
On the day we didn’t let anything phase us, we just enjoyed it. The most important thing is that we were excited for the marriage, not just the wedding day. This meant that we weren’t worried in the slightest if anything went wrong on the day and after the wedding we didn’t feel down as some brides do!
Anything you would do differently?
Not at all, everything was absolutely perfect!
